Final Evaluation Question 1 - In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
Cover comparison
On the left is the real media artefact, the title of this magazine is in large, bold writing across the top of the page; this writing is behind the main image. The main image is a group, almost, full body shot that spans across the whole page, the main person is more forward than the other members of the featured band and is front and centre of the page. The main titles on the cover are in red and yellow, which adds colour to the page. A large amount of space on the cover is used to advertise the free cd, attached to the cover, which comes with the issue. The banner across the top, above the title of the magazine, shows images of the posters featured in the issue and another feature story. This cover is quite busy the colours and text but is simple to follow and easy to see what each title is in order of their importance due to the layout, colours, font style and size. The barcode is quite small and features the issue number, website and price.
On the right is my cover, the title of my magazine is bold and takes up a large space on the top left of my cover, however my title does not go across the entire top of the page like it does in the real media artefact. The main image is a mid- shot, I didn’t feel the need to do a full body shot like in the real media artefact because I was not taking a group photo; the main image does span across nearly the whole page however. My cover is simple but the style is very bold with splashes of red, the fist for the logo especially is very bold, these are things to be associated with the genre of metal. I also feature other pictures on my cover as the real artefact does. My barcode is similar to the one on the real media artefact in the way of size; I have also displayed the issue number, price and website here.
Contents comparison
On the left is the real media product, this magazines contents page covers two pages. The main story, featured on the cover, is the largest image in the contents pages taking up half of each page. On the left page is one column, the editors column and other small stories are in that section. On the right page is another column split into two, featuring stories. The bottom of the two pages is mostly filled with images with short captions for each and a page number. The order of the most important stories are shown through colour in this contents, the most important titles are in red boxes, then yellow font follows and the other stories and captions are in white font. There is also a variation of font sizes; the largest writing is the title of the editors column and the title above the contents on the right hand column. The smallest writing is on the captions and extra information under titles. On these pages I can see at least eight different font sizes. The page numbers are reasonably small but are in bright colours so that they stand out more, the more important stories however have larger fonts for the page number.
On the right is my contents page, mine is only a single page. Like in the real media product’s contents page my main story has the largest image in the contents page. I have three columns of information in my contents; the right hand column is the editor’s column which also features an image from the ‘fan art of the week’. The left and middle columns show other stories with the more important ones having bigger and bold titles, some with images. When I put the title ‘contents’ on this page I maintained using my logo for the title ‘MOSH’. The red banner at the top of the page displays the issue number and the date of release. My images have captions like on the real media product, I have also written extra information under some titles e.g. ‘SUICIDE SILENCE will Eddie Hermida ever replace Mitch Lucker?’. I have also included a variation of font sizes, in my contents page I can see at least seven different font sizes. My main story has the largest page number.
Double Page Spread (DPS) comparison
The DPS on the left is the real media product. The heading for this is almost as wide as the first two columns on the first page. The largest font on this page is the title that says ‘LIVE’, this automatically tells the audience that the article is based on a live concert. Then next biggest text is the title ‘BLACK VEIL BRIDES’ which is the band that the article is based on, this title is in large, bold, white writing. The extra information under the title is smaller than half of the font used on the title saying ‘BLACK VEIL BRIDES’. There is a variation of eight font sizes and four different font colours. There are a total of three columns for this article. The main image covers almost the entire second page; the image also has a small caption. There are an extra three images on the left of the article, one of which is labelled again with a caption. This article also includes one use of drop caps on the third column on the second page.
On the right is my DPS, my heading is the largest font on the two pages and spans across the whole of the first page. Under my headline is the name of the album, featured in the interview, this is the next largest font. I also have my magazine name and logo worked into my DPS by the headline; I did this to maintain the usage of my magazine title for branding. On the spine of the DPS I have a small amount of text saying ‘find more at www.moshmagazine.com’ this font is the smallest font on the two pages. There is a variation of eight font sizes and three different font colours. There are a total of three columns for this article, the same as the real media product. My pull quote is near half the size of the headline as it is in the real media product. To show in the interview what the question is and what the answer is, I have made each question all capitals, bold, and in white and the answer in regular writing in black. The main image covers nearly the entire second page, like on the real media product and again I have the caption to go with my image. In my article I also use drop caps once under the titles before the Q and A

For question 1, don't just list the codes and conventions that you have used in comparison to another RMA; you need to consider why you have used the codes and conventions- how are you communicating to your audience with them? In what ways did you challenge any and why? Make it explicit that you know that codes and conventions are used and some are followed for a reason.
For question 2 there is a lack of detail. You mostly focus on audience a bit too much and need to consider WHAT social group you've presented- age/gender/identity and how different elements of the magazine represent them- colloquial language, aggressive stance and angry facial expressions, dark clothes symbolic etc.

Mrs D
Great branding and content. Check pictures and you need to work on font sizes across all three pages. Well done for meeting your deadline.
